Types of Chemical Peel Options for Your Skin

When it comes to deep exfoliation, the easiest and best treatment worth seeking out is to get a chemical peel. A physical exfoliant like a facial scrub you use at home simply isn’t going to do the job the same way, and may end up causing damage as it creates microtears in your skin. Leave it to the pros at Colair Beauty Lounge & Med Spa to help.

Some ingredients are simply too harsh, and chemical peels use specific ingredients based on your skin type and condition so that it’s safe and effective—a winning combination.

One point worth noting is that while you may see over-the-counter peels at your local store, there are things to be aware of. First, the strength of the active ingredient in a chemical peel is significantly less than that of a medical spa peel which means you won’t see the results you’re hoping for. These are very superficial, because they aren’t strong. They can also be harmful if you don’t know what you’re doing, and can end up burning or damaging your skin.

Types of Chemical Peels

There are different ingredients used in the multiple chemical peels available. Each ingredient targets your skin’s type or condition a certain way. While they may all look similar in a bottle, they are indeed unique in the work that they do.

The main types of acids you’ll find used in different types of chemical peels are: Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Retinoic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Phytic Acid, Carbolic Acid, and TCA (which stands for Trichloroacetic Acid).

Take for example a retinal acid. People hear the word retinoid and think, oh, I recognize that word. I’ll try that one. But, if you have thin or very sensitive skin, this wouldn’t be a good choice for you. That’s where one of the professionals at Colair Beauty Lounge & Med Spa come in. They can direct you toward the chemical peel that’s right for your situation and understand contraindications (reasons you should avoid certain ingredients).

Chemical peels can address dark spots, texture issues, help with skin tone, and give you a freshened appearance, along with other benefits. One of our highly-trained staff members will be able to address any skincare concern you might have.

Chemical Peel Benefits

The benefit of getting a chemical peel is that you’ll not only have faster results, but you’ll get better results as well, as compared to an at-home peel. By choosing Colair Beauty Lounge & Med Spa over a traditional day spa, you’ll be able to get a chemical peel that is stronger than you’d get during a relaxing facial. If you want results, a chemical peel is a great choice, but absolutely only rely on a professional at Colair Beauty Lounge & Med Spa.

  • Chemical peels offer deep exfoliation
  • Deep exfoliation means resurfacing the skin for a smoother appearance (think fine lines, and texture issues)
  • A chemical peel can help reduce dark spots, sun damage, and signs of aging
  • Chemical peels can help acne in some cases, and reduce the signs of acne scarring
  • Exfoliation will leave you with a refreshed look and feel

Skin Peeling Treatment

When it comes to getting a skin peeling treatment, it’s important to understand that your skin is being deeply exfoliated to expose the skin cells below that top surface that’s being removed. Whether you’re looking to rejuvenate your skin with a freshened look, tackle an acne or acne scarring issue, or help lighten dark spots, there are peels that can help you achieve your look. The most important aspect of chemical peels is letting a professional help you for the best results and so that you don’t end up with burned or damaged skin.

Chemical Peel Aftercare Tips

A good chemical peel can do wonders. In the hands of a trained professional, a series of skin-friendly chemicals are applied to your skin to help with skin texture, reduce pore size and lighten pigmentation. At Colair Beauty Lounge & Med Spa, we offer a few similar treatments, including our VI Chemical Peels.

Here’s a few great tips for after your peel, so you can get the best results from your treatment.

1. Don’t Touch or Pick at Your Skin

One of the biggest battles after your chemical peel will be fighting the urge to scratch, pull or pick at your skin. Doing this can lead to scarring, which is counterproductive.

2. Moisturize

You’ll want to ditch your usual skincare routine. Moisturizer and sunscreen are all you’ll need. Make sure you’re applying face cream throughout the day which helps with the peeling process.

3. Avoid Wearing Dark Clothing:

If you’re not wanting to look like you survived a snowstorm, avoid dark clothes whilst peeling. Go for something light, because dead skin loves dark clothing and that isn’t cute.
