How to Keep Hair Healthier Longer

Want to learn how to get healthy hair fast? Check out our list of hair care dos and don’ts for your best strands yet. Use these tips to create a healthy hair routine.

Do: Wash Your Hair Regularly

Washing your hair helps ensure your scalp and hair are free of grime and excess oil. A clean scalp helps create the best environment for hair growth.

Don’t: Overwash Your Hair

The amount of times per week you wash your hair depends on your hair type. If you have super dry hair, only wash up to twice a week. If you have an oily scalp, try washing every other day.

Do: Condition Your Hair After Every Shampoo

Yes, even if you have an oily scalp, a hydrating conditioner makes the hair more supple. If you color your hair or your hair is dry, use a deep conditioning mask once a week to help maintain moisture.

Healthy Hair Tips: Don’t wash out your conditioner right away. Give it 2-5 minutes to fully absorb. Also, don’t put conditioner on your roots if you’re prone to an oily scalp.

Don’t: Use Conditioners Made With Silicones

Silicone temporarily coats the hair making it feel heavy and weighed down. A lof drugstore or two-in-one shampoos and conditioners are silicone-based, and they leave a film that makes the hair look dull.

Do: Let Your Hair Air Dry

Heat damage is the #1 cause of breakage, split ends, and unhappy hair. Let your hair dry naturally instead of nuking your strands with a blow dryer. Of course, it’s OK to use heat every once in a while for special events – just use a good heat protectant!

Don’t: Brush Wet Hair

Wet hair is more susceptible to damage. Avoid breakage by gently combing your damp hair using a wide-tooth comb. Also, don’t aggressively rub your hair with a towel; it can lead to excessive hair breakage and shedding. Instead, squeeze the water out of your hair with a microfiber towel.

What Products & Treatments Should You Try?

Invest in good-quality hair products. Look for a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner that’s specially formulated for your hair type. Another healthy hair tip is to avoid overdoing it on products. Usually, a good leave-in conditioner and a heat protectant are all you need!

If you have severely damaged hair, you can do a few things to help restore your hair’s health. Sometimes a simple trim to remove any dead ends can help restore your hair. If you have more significant damage, Vitamin IV Therapy with a high dose of biotin can help improve the health of your hair, skin, and nails from the inside out.
