IPL is a noninvasive, quick, and easy way to treat common skin problems ranging from acne and rosacea to hair removal and skin texture. 

IPL works by using energy from light to specifically target and eliminate any damaged or pigmented skin or hair follicles. 

Your certified laser specialist at Colair will use one of the devices detailed above to heat the cells or follicles in your skin and break them down. Your body then naturally flushes out the damaged tissue, allowing your skin to heal stronger and healthier.

Areas most commonly exposed to sunlight may be treated with IPL Photofacial devices, including your: 

• Face
• Chest
• Hands
• Neck
• Shoulders
• Arms

• Use high-quality sunscreen (aim for at least SPF 50) or stay out of direct sunlight in the weeks leading up to your treatment to prevent increased light sensitivity and hindrance in your treatment.
• Avoid self-tanners and tanning beds.
• Avoid the use of retinoids or other products that may cause increased skin sensitivity prior to your appointment.
• Keep your skin hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Most patients will experience little to no pain with an IPL treatment, however everyone’s level of tolerance is different. Some patients describe it as a rubber band snapping.. The Photofacial devices used at Colair Beauty Lounge and Med Spa are safe, gentle, noninvasive, and non-ablative, which means the top layer of your skin is not removed during your treatment. You can expect a relatively easy treatment with minimal pain and a fast recovery.

The number of treatments necessary to see the outcomes you desire are unique to each individual and will depend on the concern you are having treated, your desired results, and the decision that you and your laser specialist come to together during your initial consultation. 

In most cases, you can expect to receive multiple treatments in order to see optimal results. Typically, we recommend 2 treatments initially and then 1 each year afterwards for maintenance. 

Because Photofacial treatments are noninvasive, you should experience a quick recovery. You may notice some of the following mild effects as your skin begins to heal and rejuvenate:

• Sunburn sensation in areas treated
• Minor redness in the hours after your procedure
• Some swelling under the eye area, if redness or blood vessels are being treated
• Darkened age spots or freckles for several days
• The possibility of rough skin or flaking skin for up to 10 days as the skin begins to heal and rejuvenate healthfully
