There are a few main types of fillers approved to be used in the cheeks. Hyaluronic acid is found in Restylane and Juvederm-branded injections. This is one method of temporary dermal filler naturally found in the body that attracts water and gives skin its fuller appearance. Injecting hyaluronic acid reduces the loss of volume that causes skin to sag or sink with age.
Depending on the method of injection chosen, cheek fillers can last anywhere from six months to two years before results begin to filter away. The dermal fillers will eventually dissolve naturally into your skin tissue.

Polylactic acid is another injection method effective for cheek fillers. Poly-L-lactic acid is most commonly found in Sculptra filler products, another popular option we offer at Colair Beauty Lounge & Med Spa in Gilbert, AZ. It stimulates your body’s own collagen into producing volume. The collagen-boosting properties found within this injection method help produce a more natural-looking result. It does require multiple injection appointments, however, taking more time to produce desired results.
Another method of cheek fillers, Radiesse, is a smooth gel filled with tiny calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres. The microspheres act as additional stimulants for your body to produce its own natural collagen, providing immediate volume and correction to your cheeks when injected. This produces longer-lasting (18+ months) results as your body absorbs the gel and microspheres. Radiesse can be used as an additional alternative to hyaluronic fillers, but since it is calcium based, it is not dissolvable and therefore better suited to areas such as the jawline.
Our med spa in Gilbert utilizes hyaluronic acid to naturally blend into your skin. We will inject an appropriate amount, depending on your needs. Our nurse will walk you through your specific treatment plan.
We will first consult with you on what treatment you’re seeking and provide you an estimate. During this time, we’ll get to know more about you and what some of your goals for your skin are. This will help guide us in providing you with the right treatment and making sure you leave happy with the results. We want to be sure we are giving you the desired results the first time around.
Make sure to talk about all of the vitamins, medications and supplements you’re currently taking with Colair’s registered nurse before undergoing your filler treatment, especially blood-thinning agents. We recommend avoiding caffeine, alcohol, aspirin, and fish oil supplements for a minimum of 48 hours prior to your appointment to lessen your chance of Bruising. Also, you may come with or without makeup, as the treatment area will be cleaned prior to injection.
One of our registered nurses will apply a topical anesthetic to your cheeks prior to the injection. This will alleviate any discomfort caused during the procedure. It may take a day or two for the filler to settle, but otherwise, you should be able to see results almost immediately.
You will be able to return to your normal day-to-day routine immediately, although some swelling is to be expected and may last multiple days. You may treat the area with an ice pack and very light pressure if you experience any soreness. Hold off on exercise or any strenuous activity for the rest of the day, and avoid swimming, saunas, hot tubs, or other activities that could cause irritation to the injection sites or risk infection. Avoid sleeping on the areas that were injected with Filler, as well as excessive touching of your face. Avoid Facials, Massage, Chiropractic, Dental work, or other treatments that apply pressure to the face for 14 days after your Filler treatment.
